Advocacy Initiatives

At the beginning of COVID-19 in 2020, the University of Oregon decided that it wanted to cut 211 Career Non-Tenure Track Faculty jobs. This included an 81% Reduction in the UO Librarian Workforce in FY22. Thankfully the outcome was not as dire with contracts staying in tact for that fiscal year. Many thanks to individual colleagues and organizations who wrote letters of support, media publicity, and testimonials that were sent to the Provost’s Office or publicly shared. They included UO faculty and departments, library personnel from Oregon State University Libraries & Press, ACRL-Oregon, Oregon Library Association, Information Literacy Advisory Group of Oregon, Oregon Heritage Commission, the Daily Emerald, United Academics, and Library Journal.
